Interview with Marc Ziade, CEO, 5th World: Part Five

Marc Ziade, CEO of 5th World

What does 5th World do? What does regenerative living really mean? And, how can technology, nature, and humanity collaborate for a net-positive future?

We explore it all in this new series of interviews with our CEO, Marc Ziade.

What are 5th World’s short-term and long-term goals?

“Our goal right now is to increase our regenerative property design activities. First by expanding further across North America, then globally.

Our second priority is growing the global VDAO community. But more importantly, nurturing the community such that its members continue to contribute and create value.

One way we’re thinking about this is we want to see the first example of a local community coming together under the umbrella of VDAO—our global digital community—and creating regenerative solutions together. It would be the first bootstrap, bottom-up autonomous community that’s also part of a bigger digital network.

The second thing we’d like to do is to incubate a token-based product that creates regional incentives for regeneration. For example, a solar loyalty token.

In terms of long-term goals, I think of our mission to accelerate the world’s transition to regenerative, distributed energy, water, and food systems. At the moment, people are interested in adopting these solutions, but the concept is still quite niche. So one ongoing task is to raise awareness of the value of regenerative living—both for people and the planet—and to support that mindset shift turning into tangible action.

Part of this long-term vision is for people to transform the way they perceive their property: Their land, their home, and its features. We tend to think about our property as a passive, appreciating asset. What we’re doing is enabling people to think about their property as a living asset—a place that can generate its own energy, water, and food year-round.

What’s more, we would love to see a world where—if you have a piece of land and need to buy a house—you can literally go online, share the location of your land and its characteristics, and then get different design options for a modular home. Then you’d pick one of them, customize the regenerative systems you want, and purchase it. The house would get delivered to your location with an assembly team, get assembled, and there you go, you have an autonomous regenerative home.

I think we’re a bit far from that right now, but it’s one of our dreams to make that future a reality for everyone.”
